My favorite free classrooms

Khan Academy

A nonprofit with free lessons, videos, and practice in math, science, economics, history, art, and more, for kids and adults alike. Great for homework help and for brushing up on skills.

MIT OpenCourseWare

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology shares materials from thousands of its real courses for free, including lecture notes, assignments, and many full video lectures. No sign-up needed.

Free course previews

Big course sites like Coursera and edX offer many courses from universities, and some let you view course material for free, while certificates usually cost extra. Free options vary by course, so check before you enroll.

College classes for older adults

Many public colleges and universities let older adults audit or attend classes free or at a very low cost. In California, for example, the CSU system has an over-60 fee waiver program at participating campuses, and many community colleges offer low-cost senior classes. Check with colleges near you.

Your library

Many public libraries offer free access to learning sites and language apps with your library card.
