AnnualCreditReport.com: Your Free Credit Reports, Every Single Week
The one official site for free credit reports now lets you check all three bureaus every week, for free, for good. No trial, no card, no catch.

“Students, never pay for something the law already hands you for free. Your credit report is your report card for money. Read it!”
What is AnnualCreditReport.com?
AnnualCreditReport.com is the only website authorized by federal law to give you free credit reports from the three big credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. It used to be one free report per bureau per year. Weekly free reports began in 2020 and the bureaus have since made them permanent.
Why I assign it to my students
- It is free. No subscription and no credit card required.
- Spot mistakes early. Errors on a report can cost you better rates, so catching them saves money.
- Catch identity theft fast. An account you do not recognize is a red flag you want to see right away.
- Checking does not lower your score. Looking at your own report is a soft check.
How to get your reports, step by step
- Type the address yourself: AnnualCreditReport.com. Avoid look-alike sites and ads.
- Click “Request your free credit reports.”
- Fill in your details and answer a few security questions to confirm it is you.
- Choose one, two, or all three bureaus.
- Read each report and save or print a copy.
- Dispute anything wrong directly with the bureau that shows it.
Professor Ima’s quick tips
- The reports do not include your credit score. Many banks and card companies show you a free score in their app.
- You can also request reports by phone or mail if you prefer paper.
- Skip the upsells. The bureaus may offer paid extras, and you do not need them to see your free report.
- You can freeze your credit at each bureau for free, which is a great way to block new accounts in your name.
- A good rhythm: check one bureau every few months, rotating through all three.
Who it’s great for
- Young adults: make sure your first credit history starts out clean.
- Home and car shoppers: fix errors before you apply for a loan.
- Retirees: a quick check helps keep scammers away from your good name.
- Everyone: it is your information and it is free to look.
