Cheap 101: Grocery Store Shopping Do's and Don'ts


You probably know all this, but, it's worth saying it again. First, in order to help save money, plan your meals for the week before you shop and then buy what’s on the menu. Otherwise you end up eating out, or, eating the best stuff first and the rest just sits around till it gets rotten or expires, While your planning your meals, try do so that you have leftovers for lunch the next day, or freeze leftovers for a quick meal another day.

To help you in your meal planning, for inspiration look for online and printable coupons as well as coupons in the mail or your local paper. If you find a great deal, include it.  Once your meal plan is made out, Write out your shopping list.  But wait! Don't just run out to the store. Have something to eat first. Never go shopping on an empty stomach. If your stomach is full you'll be less likely to buy snacks and/or things you don’t usually buy - and only buy groceries, not gifts and all the extra stuff, at the grocery store.  Also, if your tired, don't go shopping if you can help it. If your tired and weary you may not notice all the sales in the supermarket, or be as apt to scan for the best deals.Shop with a calculator and add things up as you put them in your cart.
